Trust Yourself?
He who doubts from what he sees
Will ne’er believe, do what you please.
If Sun and Moon should doubt,
They’d immediately go out.

“Thel’s Motto,” The Book of Thel
The first problem for those who are unsure in attempting the meditation is the obvious—the sense that nothing is happening. That the chakra will not come alight. That it is impossible to start the process. The answer is equally simple, enormously difficult to achieve, and hugely effective. Trust. The trust that the process will occur, and produce results, is the key to enabling it to do exactly that. As ever, doubt is eminently effective as a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Sometimes the chakra does not burst into a blaze of light. But there is a sense of a colour, or a sense of light, that is more than enough to start the process. And practice strengthens the process. It is one of the chief reasons why regularity and frequency are so important, combined with the intention to meditate and the expectation that the meditation will produce results—although what those results will be cannot be known in advance. Trust is the surest way to guarantee the outcome.
Failure is another red herring. There is no failure. Even if the chakra does not display even a faint tinge of light or colour, the attempt produces results. It strengthens the practice. It reinforces the intention to meditate effectively, and reinforces the desire to repeat the effort—as long as it is not considered or labelled as a failure. It is an attempt that, in itself, can be considered a success. Every day produces another opportunity for an attempt. Continuing is all important. Gradually, perhaps imperceptibly, continuing in this way eventually produces results. Trust is the key to a successful outcome.
